BIG BOY SLEEP

If you follow this often you know that we put a toddler bed in Grayson's room about a month ago. He would play on it, but never wanted to sleep in it. He preferred his crib. Well, last night I sat him on the bed to put his socks on at bedtime and he asked for his bears. I asked, "Do you want to sleep in your big boy bed?" He responded with a nod. We got the bears, said his prayers, and he went to bed.

Grayson cried for a brief minute and then he went off to sleep. Around 11:30 he woke up crying. I went in to comfort him and he went back to sleep. Around 12:00 he starting crying again and Justin went in. On the third round he pointed to his crib and determined to get sleep, I gave in. He fussed off and on all night and we didn't get a whole lot of sleep. This is unusual in our house because Grayson rarely wakes up in the middle of the night and hasn't since he was seven weeks old. I don't function well without sleep.

After some discussion Justin and I decided that it may be better for Grayson if the crib was not an option. We are not trying to push Grayson into something he is not ready for. I think he is ready. He is asking to sleep in the "big boy" bed. Additionally, we have to get those two cribs into the nursery for our home inspection and for our new baby. It is important to me that the crib not go straight from Grayson's room to a new nursery for the new baby. I want at least several weeks in between. I don't want Grayson to feel like the new baby took his bed.

Tonight before bath we asked Grayson if he wanted to sleep in his crib or in the big boy bed. He said he wanted the big boy bed and I explained that if he wanted the big boy bed he had to say bye-bye to his crib bed and that he wouldn't be able to get in it anymore. He said "all done" and pointed to the crib.

While Grayson took his bath I took all of the bedding and mattress out of the crib leaving just the crib there. Grayson got ready for bed and went to his big boy bed. We showed him that his crib no longer had a bed in it and that his bed was the big boy bed. He said his prayers, passed out his goodnight kisses, and we left the room. He cried for about 10 minutes and he has been asleep ever since. It is now almost midnight and I am hoping we all get a good night of rest without interruptions. We will need the energy to enjoy the snow tomorrow.

Yay for moving to a big bed!

We practice the same methods for sleeping. A little crying isn't bad, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Hoping Grayson did well with the bed!
